Eggs, especially runny eggs are a staple in my diet. There is little that can’t be bettered by putting an egg on top it, and as we sing in our kitchen, butchering Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’ tune, “If you liked it then you should have put an egg on it…”
You could get all postmodern about pasta (which is just egg and flour) being served with a poached egg, but its just a harmonious mix of things that are good on their own, and even better together.
Cook the pasta. Drain and with a tablespoon of the cooking water retained (or two depending on how much pasta you are cooking), add back to pan and grate copious amounts of parmesan cheese to the pasta and water. Stir until the heat of the pasta breaks down the cheese into the water and becomes a thin sauce coating the pasta. Add plenty of black pepper and salt.
Griddle some asparagus spears.
Poach an egg.
Serve.

I’m having an existential crises seeing a poached egg served with pasta – help!
Heheh – only buzzing. I too am a major fan of runny, poached eggs and would happily chuck an egg on top of most things. Carry on!
Exactly – I challenge anybody to name five edible things that can NOT be improved by the addition od a perfectly runny poached egg. This sounds woudnerful – and I love the photo. The grown-up camera is paying off ;o)
